Our Story

After immigrating from Greece to the United States in 1969, Argirios “Argi” Giannakaris followed his passion for food, becoming a chef to provide for his family. He used this experience to open his first restaurant - the Covered Wagon of Bristol, Pennsylvania - in 1978, which was followed by Country House Restaurant in West Deptford, New Jersey in 1988.

Though the original Country House was small and simple, seating only a handful of customers at a time, the restaurant thrived thanks to the quality and care that Argi prioritized. Visitors became regulars, regulars became friends, and friends became family. Over the years the Country House family has certainly grown, and many of those very first visitors can still be found chatting over their favorite meals.

Thanks to its tight-knit community of supportive customers, Country House was able expand in 2007. As construction wrapped up on the newly renovated restaurant, Argi lost his battle with cancer and passed away. Though Argi is gone, his belief in caring for those around him lives on through the Country House staff led by his two sons, John and Gerry.
